Why I believe UX Design is an interesting field

Over the last couple of years, I have aligned my career to creating digital experiences that have a meaningful impact on users' lives while also fulfilling business needs. It has been an interesting experience which has included a UX Design Diploma, a Software Development Diploma, the Memorisely Live UX/UI Bootcamp and a few amazing digital product projects. Deciding to follow my dream and do it full time, was an easy decision to make as I have always believed that we don’t have to settle and we have to explore and take a leap of faith to live a more fulfilled life.
I haven’t shared why I think User Experience Design is such an interesting field for me, so here are a few of those reasons:To summarise it all: I have always enjoyed exploring and learning about various subjects, unpacking problems and finding solutions to see if we can change things for the better. This journey has been so rewarding and I look forward to keeping learning about and creating great products!
  1. Dynamic Discipline - Those that you know me, can attest that I am always studying something new. That is because I enjoy exploring and learning different subjects. UX is a dynamic discipline where you will always have to keep learning and stay up to date as technology and users change. Also, with UX you can work with different aspects of technology.
  2. Having an impact - Having a purposeful career where you can see your work having an actual positive impact on others, has been my life's mission. With UX your work can change how people work and also improve people’s lives by developing solutions to products and services that will impact people's real-life experiences for example making digital products accessible to everyone by implementing well-researched ways of using the product or features.
  3. Making the experience a priority - In all the previous roles I have had, the sentiment most of the time was that the business comes first and the user experience might not even feature. The primary focus is for people to use your product or service and enjoy using it. I have always had a user-centric approach to things including sitting in a restaurant and thinking about how to fix the customer experience or when booking a flight ticket, how it could function better for users.
  4. Solve business problems creatively - Lastly, you have to use creativity as well as analytical skills to solve business problems which I enjoy. You help assess weaknesses in products or services and offer recommendations to ultimately increase business sustainability and growth. The great thing about UX is that it centres around creative problem solving and you can test the results.
To summarise it all: I have always enjoyed exploring and learning about various subjects, unpacking problems and finding solutions to see if we can change things for the better. This journey has been so rewarding and I look forward to keeping learning about and creating great products!
